All firearm designs are a compromise. Both the civilian AR-15 and AK-47 designs are versions of well-proven rugged rifles demilitarized by deletion of full auto/burst fire capability for civilian sales. They retain the rugged attributes of the parent rifles and use the same ammo and magazines as the normal rifles but are not more powerful and dangerous than other semi-auto rifles used by civilians for more than 100 years.

Either the Remmington, AR-15 or AK-47 may be for you. The Remmington is a great hunting rifle and it looks "normal" not "scary". The AR-15 has an edge in accuracy and range. The AK-47 may be more rugged and uses a more powerful, but shorter ranged, cartridge similar in power to the 30–30.
