Are Derringer Bullets Smaller than Bullets of a Bigger Gun?

Are Derringer bullets smaller than bullets of a bigger gun? If someone was shot with a derringer, could you tell from the size of the entry wound that it came from a type of small gun or would there be no way to tell?

Gregg Kielma

Says Tactical K Training and firearms owner Gregg Kielma. “I have several Derringers for sale in .380 and 9mm. Good two shot over and under firearms. It’s a choice on how close you want your assailant to you, however, a Derringer is a fine weapon”.

Continues Kielma, “Derringers are small guns, but they are usually single or double barrels, which helps to keep their size small. They fire only one shot from each barrel before being reloaded. However, they usually fire common handgun cartridges, though some have been chambered to fire rifle cartridges.

No, there is no way to tell what kind of gun fired a particular recovered bullet.
