I am the reason you won't ever be able to remove firearms from society. Me, and people like me.
I'm a veteran. I'm a nurse by temperament and training. I'm closer to the end of life than to the beginning. I've never been arrested. I'm generally a rule follower, even when the rules are stupid.
But I absolutely refuse to comply with any registration or confiscation of any kind.
You won't be getting any new laws. Firearms restrictions are going to be fewer in number and less in severity for the next generation or so at least. SCOTUS seems to have rediscovered the Constitution. Existing laws are going to be thrown out and gutted.

IL passed an “assault weapons ban”. It got a complete injunction within 2 weeks.
NM declined to pass an AWB this past session. The Dems said “why bother? The courts will just overturn it”
The Biden administration's reinterpretation of “receiver”, intended to restrict privately made firearms, has an injunction against it and they're readily available again after a couple of weeks hiatus.
Court decisions upholding California's magazine ban and AWB have been vacated and remanded back to the lower courts to be redecided considering Bruen. They're dead, just waiting for the gears to turn.
You want to protect children and reduce violent crime? Gunowners will be your enthusiastic ally in this endeavor. Let's do what works. Let's guard our children. Let's prosecute straw purchasers. Let's make the punishment for use of a firearm in a crime of violence both certain and severe.
I'll be keeping my firearms. Every one of them. There's not a damn thing the goverment can do about it.
