Home Invasion Part 3

Keep in mind, the guy answering this is a trained firearms instructor and project manager.  We will need to work with your home (choke points) and obstacles (doorways and chairs) to delay or channel the perpetrator into favorable outcome for our family.

First: the ideal answer is they don’t get in. The best defense is not a shotgun, not yet it’s a good door, with great locks, well lit, in plain view.

Most doors I've see can be broken into is with a good ram, or sledge.  So, the 1st thing to do, is don’t open the door. If you have time grab your home defense tool and do not hesitate to use it. Your life and family’s live are hanging in the balance.

But suppose the first thing that happens, the door flies off its hinges and a guy is rushing in. As soon as the perpetrator crosses the threshold of my home, the Castle Doctrine applies for me. Check to see if the state you live in recognizes this law. Mine does.  At that point I have and will defend my family with lethal force. That’s my plan. Period.

What else can you do, PLAN Please read below.

His main tools are ‘speed and violence of action.

Get something between you and him. Doors work best but get anything between you and him, chair, lamp, anything that slows him down, or better yet, stops him/her or them.

Use choke points. The stairs work well. If he’s charging up the stairs throw a chair it's a great option. As he’s coming up the stairs, anything you have, table lamp, strung out t-shirt, even a quilt or pillow, will slow his assault and make him more vulnerable.

Remember, cover from view is not cover from fire. If it’s at night, a bright flashlight blinds the preparator and buys you time. Use time and distance to your advantage.

Yell loud. GET OUT. Keep yelling it. He won’t but You don’t want your wife or kids to come into the room ‘to see what the noise is.”

Conventional tools, bats, axes, shotguns are all good.  My preference is a firearm, specifically a shotgun sitting right next to me. The best thing is to have a plan. Now this is just me, this is my plan, I'm always armed day and night, always. You can read what you want into that, however, it's my plan.

If you plan it out, using tools and movement, and thinking about it before going to sleep or while brushing your teeth, your plan is always fresh in your mind. Rehearse it over and over in your mind then practice it with your family. Know your family’s safe spot, call Law enforcement. Put time and distance between you and the perpetrator,

Plan Plan Plan!!! Then execute the plan.
