If a gun owner kills a man in self-defense, should we force him to be confronted by the father of the dead person?

Original Question: If a gun owner kills a man in self-defense, should we force him to be confronted by the father of the dead person? The father wouldn't be able to get over the loss of his son.

I’ll just bet you, that if a gun owner kills a man in self-defense, that in some small part of the gun owner’s soul… they almost WANT to meet the parents of the dead person and ask them WHY in the HELL those parents didn’t do their jobs and raise their off-spring NOT to be a violent criminal.

I haven’t met a private gun owner, or a cop, YET, that really had any desire to use their firearm on another human being.

NOT… ONE…

Every cop or gun owner I know, would LOVE to get through life without ever HAVING to pull that gun and shoot another person.

I have a counter proposal for you…

How about if a man violently attacks a person, and that person shoots him… how about we require the estate of the deceased attacker, to be billed for the cost of any post-traumatic stress treatment and counseling incurred by…

1. The person who shot in defense
2. The witnesses of the event
3. The first responders who responded to the event
4. Any community members affected by the trauma of the event
5. The medical personnel who treated those injured or killed in the event.

The criminals should be the ones held to account for their misbehavior…
The people that those criminals created trouble for should be held harmless.
That’s what justice looks like.
Maybe it’s time you did some serious re-thinking.
