I was on a public range many years ago when a guy came in dressed in some kind of military uniform. The range manager approached him and had the usual briefing (I assume) prior to letting him onto the firing points. He looked very proficient.

By this time my buddies and I had settled back into the lounge overlooking the firing points with a coffee. We were interested to see how good this guy was as we had never seen him at the range before. We watched him lay out his gear and load up a magazine for his semi auto pistol. He donned his earmuffs then to our disbelief… brought his left arm up to head height and balanced his pistol hand on his raised arm with the pistol only a inch or two away from his face!

I’ve never seen a range officer move so fast, but he wasn't fast enough. The guy pulled the trigger and instantly lost his top lip and several teeth as the slide came back in recoil and hit him in the face.

Turned out he had only just got a license and had bought the gun that day. As for the military gear, who knows. Truly a scary and bad situation.
