Why would California concealed carry permit owners be "horrified" at a data breach revealing names? Just ask New York Firearm Owners… After all, they have guns to protect them, don't they?

This was done in Westchester County NY some years ago. The Moron Editors thought it would be a good idea - embarrass the gun owners, cause the neighbors to treat them badly.

It did 3 things instead:

1. It revealed where all the guns “lived”. It was a roadmap for thieves to find houses that had guns in them, and see if they couldn’t steal 1, or more. Most gun owners have more than 1 gun, but if carrying, only carry one of them. The rest are left at home. If you want to stop gun theft, dammit, don’t advertise where they are!

2. In the white space between addresses with guns, are houses that don’t have guns. You have a pretty good idea folks there are defenseless. What moron would want defenseless people targeted? Go to a house with guns, steal a few, then go to the houses without them. What could possibly go wrong?

3. What goes around comes around…. People doxed the editors and staff of the paper! The editors where horrified people now knew where they lived and who were upset at them for having doxed the people who were now outside their homes, lawfully protesting. The protesters the editors knew had guns “somewhere” - the pucker factor went up so high when the editors got up off a chair, there was a distinct vacuum-release “pop”. Horrors - they had to live by the same standards they imposed on others! That’s not the leftist way of doing things - double standards abound. Good for thee but not for me…

New York soon passed a law that people with carry permits were not subject to the Open Records or FOIA acts. That had been the standard in most states already. New York just hadn’t thought it through.
