President Trump and United States Canceled Carry

It would eliminate the abuse that is currently in place. 

If I am out and someone in my family was taken to an ER in my neighboring state, because it does not have a reciprocity agreement, I cannot legally cross state lines and enter that state. I cannot at the spur of the moment decide to visit a family member without first going home and disarming.

That state also has a law that says that local governments can pre-empt state laws and outlaw concealed carry at the local level. So even if you had a permit in that state, you would have to know EVERY law in EVERY municipality that you travel through.

There are federal laws that allow you to transport a weapon through a state, but it is very restrictive. For example, you cannot stay overnight in a motel. You must travel completely through the state before you can stay overnight. They graciously allow you to at least eat at a restaurant. The weapon must be kept unloaded and in a locked case. The ammunition must be in a separate locked container as well.

I basically lose my right to defend myself against harm at the hands of others.

The gun and ammunition must be in separate compartments in the vehicle. If the gun is in the cabin, then the ammo must be in the trunk. This makes travel in an RV that is not a trailer rather restrictive depending on where there is storage in the RV. 

Pickups and vans can also be problematic.
