A father was sentenced to, or was he, to prison after entering a plea of no contest for shooting his daughter's boyfriend during an argument, according to court records.

Charles, 50, entered a plea to the lesser charge of manslaughter with a firearm on Oct. 24, and was adjudicated guilty more than two years after the fatal shooting occurred, court records indicate..

Charles was initially charged with murder in the second-degree with a firearm, according to court records.

Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call on the evening of Sept. 21, 2025, at an apartment at 1234 54 drive in connection to a shooting, according to a probable cause affidavit. Charles then 48, had shown up to his 24-year-old daughter's apartment while her boyfriend was there.

Charles and the boyfriend, Joe, 30, got into an argument outside of the apartment building, according to previous reporting. It was then that Charles reportedly shot Joe in the upper torso.

Deputies assisted EMS with treating Joe before he was transferred to the ABC Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

Charles fled the scene but turned himself into law enforcement custody about two days later, according to court records.
